BFA principal's Office

Welcome to Bellows Free Academy home of the Bobwhites and Comets. Our school is rich in tradition and we are very proud of our vibrant academic and co-curricular programs. We serve over 900 students in Franklin County and are a school of choice for many young people throughout the region.

Academically, we work to ensure the best environment possible for teaching and learning. The strength of our school is the many opportunities we provide so that each student can learn and grow. We are also committed to a positive school culture and climate that reflects the experiences our students have at The Academy and the relationships they develop with both adults and peers. Our school culture is directly connected to our core values. We believe that all students will learn respect, dependability and productivity and become effective problem solvers, community members and lifelong learners.

Information on the May 29th  incident at BFA

This morning at approximately 7:45am we were notified about a possible gas leak on Main Street. As a precaution we followed a “Secure the School” protocol at the recommendation of authorities. At 8am we were asked to evacuate the South building and move all faculty, staff, and students to the North building. At that time, an official from the St. Albans Fire Department came and did a thorough check of the South Building for any signs of gas. There were no signs of gas in the building. Students remained in the North building classrooms, library, and cafeteria while the gas line on Main Street was secured.

Visiting BFA

Hello everyone,

As you know, we welcome visitors to BFA. To make sure that we can account for all guests, please make sure that when you come to school you check in at either the Principal’s Office in the North Building or the Main Office in the South Building.

A staff member will greet you and escort you to your desired location. If you need to see someone else after your initial visit, a staff member will contact that person to make sure they are available.

Thank you very much for your attention and cooperation.

Hello everyone,

This month we have had a Lock Down drill and an unexpected Secure the School event due to an incident in the community. We have protocols in place that are reviewed with faculty and students on a regular basis and work to provide updated information as soon as possible during any emergency. Please refer to school Superintendent, Dr. Kevin Dirth's comprehensive message on school safety in our Parent and Student Handbook on Page 5 and 6 for additional information. Your continued support is most valued and appreciated as we strive to ensure a safe environment for all our students.
