Special Meeting to Vote on Building Purchase

The Maple Run Unified School District (MRUSD) Board has set a Special Vote for November 14 to ask the voters of Fairfield, St. Albans City and St. Albans Town to approve the purchase of the property at 28 Catherine St., St. Albans

The property has been home to the District Central Office staff for more than twenty years. Central Office presence in the building recently expanded to accommodate staff, secure files and house the English Language Learners (ELL) educators. Over this summer, the last spot in the building became available, and now Early Childhood Programs (ECP) have joined Central Office at the location as well. Centralizing staff that work throughout the school buildings has been ongoing and efficient. Now, the District has been given the opportunity to purchase the property that it has leased for more than twenty years. The MRUSD Board believes that this is an opportunity to enhance the District while saving money for the taxpayers.

Terms of the sale are:

  • Sale Price: $415,000
  • Interest: 0%
  • Transfer of Ownership: will begin upon approval by voters

The owner has agreed to hold a mortgage with no interest and no down-payment. There will be 100 payments of $4,150 per month, which is what the Central Office currently pays for rent.

  • Save ECP’s FY17 rent of $1,630 per month.
  • There are no taxes because of educational use.
  • The property appraised at $500,000.
  • The Structural Inspection showed no substantial issues.
  • Transfer of ownership would begin right after approval, beginning equity for the District.

An Informational Meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 13 at 6:00 p.m. in the BFA Library, where you will have all of your questions answered. We look forward to seeing you there, and on the 14th to vote!
