Dear Program Students & Families:
The 2026-2027 school year is nearly upon us! We are thrilled to have you join us at Northwest Career & Technical Center (NCTC). If you are no longer interested in attending NCTC, please email Susan Bosland at sbosland@maplerun.org as soon as possible, as several of our programs currently have student waitlists.
As we prepare for the new academic year, we want to provide you with some essential information to ensure a smooth start:
Bell Schedule & Academic Calendar: Attached to this letter, you will find our school’s bell schedule and academic calendar. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the schedule since start and end times vary based on the day of the week and your home high school’s schedule.
First Day of School
Wednesday, August 26
BFA-St. Albans Freshman only
ALL students from other schools (not BFA St. Albans students in grades 10th - 12th)

Required Documents for Participation
All parents/guardians are to complete these online forms by September 1st. This information is required for participation. The link is here.
Attendance & Tardy Policies
Attendance and tardies will have a direct impact on a student’s ability to achieve proficiency in our programs. This is based on the program’s requirement to be physically present to practice and perform.
In addition, attendance and arriving on time is measured as a Career Ready skill, which will appear on the student’s transcript. Reference the District’s policy & procedure website.
Cell Phones “Off and Away” - Act 72
Following the Vermont law that is in full effect for the 2026-2027 school year, all schools are required to implement procedures ensuring that student cell phones and smartwatches remain off and out of sight from arrival to dismissal. Staff are also guided to keep their devices out of sight to model these expectations.
These requirements are outlined in our district and school handbooks. This means students may not use cell phones or non-school-issued personal devices with internet capabilities (including smartwatches and wireless headphones) from arrival to dismissal.
All devices that fall under the Vermont state law will be required to be stowed off and away or collected upon arrival. If a student is seen with a device they are subject to discipline action.

Culture of Respect: Harassment, Hazing, Bullying (HHB) & Title IX
At NCTC, creating a safe, inclusive, and professional learning environment is fundamental to everything we do. We hold a zero-tolerance stance against Harassment, Hazing, and Bullying (HHB), as well as any violations under Title IX.
This type of behavior is unacceptable at school, in the workplace, and anywhere in our community. Every student and staff member deserves to feel respected, supported, and valued every day.
If you experience or witness any form of discrimination, misconduct, or unsafe behavior, please reach out immediately to an adult on campus who can help and/or call 802-527-6433.
Together, we must protect and cultivate a culture of mutual respect across all our programs and facilities. All related policy and procedures can be found on the District’s website.
Parking On Campus is Not Permitted
Students are not permitted to park on campus at any time. Unauthorized vehicles will be towed at the owner's expense.
Please be aware that if your vehicle is towed, there is a hefty towing fee that must be paid to the towing company to retrieve your car.
To avoid this inconvenience and additional costs, you can request a parking pass from City Hall to park in the city garage or locate public parking on the surrounding streets.
Dress Participation Requirements
The following is a list of our programs that have daily dress requirements. Other programs will have dress requirements as needed and will be communicated to the students and outlined in the program syllabus.
Automotive Technology
Workboots and pants are required to participate in the auto shop. A dedicated locker and safety glasses are provided.
Building Trades & Electrical
Work boots, pants, and weather appropriate clothing are required to participate in labs and on the job-site. A dedicated locker and safety equipment are provided.
Cosmetology
Salon professional attire should be worn at all times. This means no sweat pants, sweatshirts, stained or dirty clothes.
Shoes should be able to be worn while standing for long periods of time and clothing should fit and cover appropriately.
When serving clients in the salon clinic, students will be required to wear black pants, black shoes, a black or white top, and a professional apron.
Culinary Arts
Close-toed shoes and long pants are required to be worn with the provided brigade, as is the industry standard.
Outdoor Technology
This is truly an outdoor program. Students need to be ready to participate in outdoor related activities.
Boots and weather-appropriate clothing are required to participate. Safety glasses and work gloves are provided where necessary.
