Maple Run Unified School District is sharing an update with staff and community members regarding the Education Transformation Bill (H.955), which has passed the Vermont Legislature and is now before the Governor for consideration.
While there is still work ahead to understand how the legislation will be implemented, it represents a significant statewide effort to make changes to Vermont’s public education system over the coming years.
At a broad level, the bill includes several major changes, including the creation of regional Cooperative Educational Service Areas (CESAs), a structured process for regional planning that may include consolidation or merger discussions, and a new statewide education funding model based on a foundation formula.
Many of the important details, including timelines, governance, and how the system will operate day to day, are still being developed at the state level.
For Maple Run, this work will happen alongside the daily operation of our schools. District leaders will also participate in ongoing regional and state conversations to help ensure the voice of students, staff, and the community is included.
At this time, there are no immediate changes to school operations. Teaching, learning, and student support remain the focus across the district, and schools continue to provide safe, stable, and supportive learning environments.
“Even as statewide systems evolve, our responsibility remains the same,” Superintendent Bill Kimball said. “We are focused on ensuring a meaningful, flexible, rigorous, and safe education for every student so they can thrive and excel.”
The district will continue to share updates as more information becomes available and as implementation becomes clearer.
“We know there are still a lot of unanswered questions,” district officials added. “We will continue to communicate clearly as this work moves forward.”
The district also expresses appreciation for staff and community members as schools continue their day-to-day work during this period of statewide change.
